A new tax, called 'Fire Tax' (Agni Kar), has been imposed on the people of Tripura on May 12, 2022. Although the state budget for 2022-2023 has been kept tax free, but state government is searching various ways to collect taxes from the people. It is learned that the state government will take 'fire tax' from now on in the same way as the government collects taxes from water, land property and houses. This tax will be levied as a surcharge on the property rented by the government to the municipality, nagar panchayat or gram panchayat. The government will issue a separate notice as to what percentage of the property tax will be the amount of that fire surcharge.

It has been reported that the 'Fire and Emergency Services Act' 2022 has been introduced in the state this year that law provides for 'fire' tax. However, this tax will not be collected from any building under the government. It is said that those who take property tax will calculate the fire tax in the same way they take it. On May 12, AK Bhattacharya, Additional Secretary, Fire and Emergency Services, issued a notice to collect the fire tax.
