ECI orders SSR of electoral rolls in 14 states and three UTs

New Delhi, Oct 17, 2026 : The Election Commission (ECI) has ordered a Special Summary Revision of electoral rolls in 14 States and three Union Territories with the 1st of January next year as the qualifying date. These states and UTs are Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Assam, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Goa, Gujarat, Kerala, Lakshadweep, Madhya Pradesh, Manipur, Puducherry, Punjab, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and West Bengal.

ECI said that the draft electoral rolls will be published on the 12th of November this year, while the final rolls will be published on the 4th of January next year. The commission said that eligible citizens can file objections and claims from the 12th of next month till the 11th of December. It said that young citizens turning 18 on 1st April 2027, 1st July 2027 or 1st October 2027 can apply in advance for enrolment. Help desks will be set up at the district level to facilitate enrolment of electors, especially migrants, the vulnerable and the marginalised.
