Trump says ending Russia-Ukraine war remains his priority
New Delhi, Oct 17, 2026 : US President Donald Trump has said that his priority is to end the Russia-Ukraine war, asserting that both Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy want the conflict to end. However, Zelenskyy has accused Moscow of showing no genuine willingness to negotiate, amid continued hostilities and differences over sanctions and security guarantees.
Speaking to the media, Trump said he was focused on bringing the war to an end, citing the heavy casualties on both sides.
Meanwhile, Zelenskyy said Putin was using rhetoric that did not reflect a genuine desire for peace. In a social media post, the Ukrainian President said Moscow was not interested in negotiations at present and was merely engaging in word games.
