West Bengal Govt forms SIT to probe SRFTI campus incident

New Delhi, Sep 30, 2026 : The West Bengal Government has formed a five-member Special Investigation Team (SIT), to probe the September 27 incident at the Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute, SRFTI, in Kolkata.

The SIT, headed by Kolkata Police Additional Commissioner of Police, Crime, Kunal Aggarwal, will investigate three FIRs registered at Panchasayar Police Station in connection with the incident.

The team includes officers from the Kolkata Police and the CID. Other personnel from the state police and Kolkata Police may also be included, if required. The SIT has been directed to submit its first investigation report to the state government by October 1.

It may be mentioned that violence erupted at the campus of SRFTI on 27th September when members of Akhil Bharatiya Grahak Panchayat (ABGP), a consumer group, who were holding an event inside the campus, had clashes with students of the institute. Several students were injured in the violence.
