Logistics cost reduced due to good road infrastructure

New Delhi, Sep 28, 2026 : Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari today said that the logistics cost of the country has reduced due to good road infrastructure. The Minister was speaking at a private media conclave in New Delhi. Mr Gadkari said that India’s logistics cost, which was earlier around 16 per cent, has declined by about 6 per cent based on studies by IIM Bengaluru, IIT Kanpur and IIT Chennai. The Minister also stressed the role of road infrastructure in reducing logistics costs and said that road infrastructure is the backbone of the Indian economy. He also said that the tourism sector in Assam has witnessed a boost in recent years. Mr Gadkari further said that infrastructure, transport and communication have improved in the state in the last few years. The Minister added that industries, trade and tourism are essential for creating employment opportunities. He also stressed the need to identify the strengths of Assam and the Northeast and turn existing challenges into opportunities.
