India’s medal tally reaches eight at Asian Games

New Delhi, Sep 23, 2026 : At the Asian Games, the Indian trio of Maheshwari Singh, Parinaaz Dhaliwal and Raiza Dhillon secured the bronze medal in the women’s team skeet shooting event at Aichi-Nagoya, taking country’s overall medal tally on Day 4 to eight.

In another feat, Jay Meena made history in soft tennis, assuring country its first-ever medal in the sport. Jay has advanced to the semifinals, defeating Sherwin Nuguit of the Philippines 4-3 in a closely fought quarterfinal.

In shooting, Double Olympic medallist Manu Bhaker has qualified for the final of women’s 10-metre air pistol event. She finished third in the qualification round. However, the trio of Manu, Suruchi Singh and Esha Singh failed to qualify in the team event.

Indian swimmer Beniston Benedicton has qualified for the final of the men’s 100-metre butterfly event. He finished ninth overall in the heats to secure his place in the final which will be held at 1:38 PM today.

In rowing at the Asian Games, Balraj Panwar has qualified for the final of the men’s singles sculls event. He finished third in his heat with a timing of 6 minutes 52.84 seconds and was fourth overall across the two heats. The final will be held tomorrow. India have also secured final berth in the men’s double sculls event. Satnam Singh and Salman Khan finished second in their heat, clocking 6 minutes 15.63 seconds. They finished fourth overall across the two heats and advanced to the final.

In canoeing, the Indian Men’s Kayak Four team has qualified for the Final A. The Indian team finished third in the heats, clocking 1 minute 29.447 seconds to secure a place in the final.

In Sepaktakraw, Indian Men’s Regu team defeated Philippines, 2-0 in the opening Group B match, registering 15-7, 15-10 win.

Weightlifter Mirabai Chanu will take part in the women’s 49-kilogram final. The match is scheduled to begin at 10 AM. She will be aiming for her first Asian Games medal after finishing fourth at the Hangzhou Games in 2023.

India is already assured of medals in Men’s badminton and Women’s Wushu. The Men’s badminton team will take on China in the semi-final today, after defeating Japan in the quarter-final yesterday. The match is scheduled to begin at 11:30 AM. In Wushu, Roshibina Devi will face Indonesia’s Thania Kusumaningtyas in the women’s 60-kilogram Sanda semi-final at 2:50 PM.

India’s skeet shooters Anantjeet Singh Naruka, Bhavtegh Singh Gill and Mairaj Ahmad Khan will be in action on the final day of qualification.

In Hockey, the Indian Women’s Team will face Thailand in their third Pool B match this morning. The match will begin 11:30 AM.

Indian Men’s and Women’s kabaddi teams will also continue their group-stage campaigns.

Yesterday, the Indian women’s cricket team clinched country’s first gold medal of the Games, defeating Sri Lanka by 147 runs in the final. The victory took India’s medal tally to seven.

In Boxing, Jadumani Singh advanced to the pre-quarterfinals in the Men’s 55-kilogram category, while Sakshi Chaudhary also progressed to the pre-quarterfinals.

Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports Dr Mansukh Mandaviya has congratulated Parinaaz Dhaliwal, Raiza Dhillon and Maheshwari Chauhan on securing the first-ever Bronze Medal in the Women’s Skeet Team event at the Asian Games.

Mr Mandaviya also extended wishes to Anantjeet Singh Naruka, Bhavtegh Singh Gill and Mairaj Ahmad Khan on securing the Bronze Medal in the Men’s Skeet Team.
