Govt makes Aadhaar biometric authentication mandatory for subsidised refills of LPG cylinders from 1st Oct
New Delhi, Sep 20, 2026 : The government has said that Biometric Aadhaar authentication is mandatory for subsidised domestic LPG refills from 1st October this year. Domestic LPG consumers will need to have completed Biometric Aadhaar Authentication to book refills at the regulated Retail Selling Price with applicable subsidy.
Biometric Aadhaar Authentication ensures that subsidised LPG reaches only genuine and deserving households. Linking each connection to the Aadhaar-authenticated consumer will help prevent diversion of subsidised domestic cylinders for commercial and industrial use. It will remove duplicate and ineligible connections, and make subsidy delivery transparent and targeted. The Ministry said the process is not meant to deny LPG to any genuine household, and every eligible consumer has several easy ways to complete it.
It said 27.43 crore consumers have already completed authentication and do not need to do anything further. Authentication can be completed at the time of delivery, at the distributor’s showroom, or on Oil Marketing Company (OMC) mobile apps. The Petroleum and Natural Gas Ministry has urged consumers who have not yet completed Biometric Aadhaar Authentication to do that before 1 October 2026.
