TRIPURA ACHIEVES ZERO DROPOUT RATE AT PRIMARY LEVEL IN 2025-26: CM

New Delhi, Sep 09, 2026 : Tripura has achieved a zero per cent dropout rate at the primary level during 2025-26, Chief Minister Manik Saha said on Tuesday, attributing the achievement to sustained efforts to strengthen foundational literacy across primary schools.

According to the Chief Minister’s Office, Saha made the remarks while addressing the International Literacy Day and ULLAS (Understanding Lifelong Learning for All in Society) Mela in New Delhi.

Saha said the state government is planning to establish state-of-the-art residential schools on the lines of Eklavya Model Schools to address low enrolment in government schools in remote and rural areas.

“Our Prime Minister Narendra Modi believes that education and literacy are the foundations of a developed and strong India. The Prime Minister desires every child to gain knowledge, skills, values and opportunities to build a bright future so as to build Viksit Bharat by 2047,” Saha said.

“Literacy is not merely the ability to read and write; it is a powerful means of empowerment, dignity, confidence and social transformation. Tripura has been implementing ULLAS– Nav Bharat Saaksharta Karyakram since May 2022,” he added.

Saha said several innovative practices have been undertaken under ULLAS in 2026. These include financial literacy initiatives for neo-learners, under which participants are taught to use cheque books, deposit forms and banking services.

The state has also introduced Experiential Market Learning, using everyday activities such as buying, selling and price comparison to strengthen literacy and numeracy skills, he said.

The state government is also undertaking awareness initiatives on health and hygiene, including practical demonstrations on proper handwashing, sanitation and personal cleanliness among the public and neo-learners, Saha said.
