Meghalaya, Assam govts hold meeting
New Delhi, Aug 22, 2026 : A joint meeting between the governments of Meghalaya and Assam was held today to deliberate upon the developments following the recent incident of vandalism of Assam-registered vehicles in Shillong on August 19th.
Deputy Chief Minister of Meghalaya, Dr. Sniawbhalang Dhar and Minister for Implementation of Assam Accord, Border Protection & Development, Government of Assam, Atul Bora led the joint meeting at Koinadhara State Guest House in Guwahati in the presence of senior officers of both state governments.
Among the major decisions taken during the joint meeting was the constitution of joint committees at the district level. The committees will be constituted comprising the Deputy Commissioner, Nongpoh, and the District Commissioner, Kamrup Metropolitan, along with police officers of the corresponding level from both districts, to ensure that day-to-day issues arising along the inter-State border are resolved promptly.
A joint committee comprising the Commissioner/Secretary-level Transport authorities of both Meghalaya and Assam, along with representatives of the tourist vehicle associations, will be constituted to facilitate and regulate tourist transport movement and safeguard the shared tourism interests of Assam and Meghalaya.
