Union Minister J P Nadda assures Centre’s full support to flood-hit Assam

New Delhi, Aug 06, 2026 : Union Minister J P Nadda has said the scale of devastation by the latest wave of floods in Assam was so enormous that it will take time to restore normalcy.

Deputed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Union Health and Family Welfare Minister toured Nepalikhuti area of Sivasagar district along the Assam-Nagaland border, which is one of the worst-hit regions in the latest wave of floods that struck on July 19. The Union minister, along with the CM, visited flood-affected areas of Nazira, where he went to the relief camps, agricultural fields and residential areas.

The flood situation in Assam has worsened, with the toll rising to 95 with six more deaths, and the number of affected increasing to 1.6 lakh across 14 districts.

In the evening, he held a high-level review meeting with Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. He assured the affected people of all possible assistance from the Centre, including financial aid, rehabilitation and compensation. He said the PM had deputed him to assess the ground situation and that he had discussed the impact of the floods in detail with the chief minister. He also received detailed information from local residents regarding the flood situation, losses incurred and reconstruction requirements.
