Kargil Vijay Diwas: Tributes to brave soldiers

New Delhi, Jul 26, 2026 : On the occasion of Kargil Vijay Diwas, President Droupadi Murmu, Vice President C P Radhakrishnan and Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tributes to the brave soldiers who laid down their lives in defence of the motherland.

In a social media post, President Murmu said the unparalleled valour, unwavering resolve and supreme patriotism of the soldiers exemplify the finest traditions of the Indian Armed Forces. She said the nation will forever remain indebted to them and that their saga of courage will continue to inspire future generations to serve the nation with dedication and a steadfast sense of duty.

Vice President C P Radhakrishnan said the nation pays homage to the brave soldiers of the Indian Armed Forces whose extraordinary courage, unwavering determination and supreme sacrifice led to India’s historic victory in the Kargil War. He said their valour safeguarded the country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

He added that the victory stands as a testament to India’s military prowess, national unity and unwavering resolve to defend every inch of the motherland.

The vice president said the nation will always remain grateful to the bravehearts and their families.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said the nation salutes the brave soldiers for their extraordinary courage and unwavering commitment to safeguarding India.

He said their valour in the face of the most challenging conditions will forever remain a source of national pride. The Prime Minister added that their patriotism and devotion to duty will continue to inspire generations.

Home Minister Amit Shah today paid tributes to the soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice to uphold the nation’s integrity on the Kargil Vijay Diwas.

In a social media post, Mr Shah said that Kargil Vijay Diwas is a symbol of the indomitable valor and extraordinary heroism of the Indian Army.

He highlighted that in 1999, despite the harsh conditions and the enemy’s positions on high-altitude fronts on the formidable snowy peaks of the Himalayas, brave Indian soldiers forced the enemy to its knees through Operation Vijay.

Minister of State for Defence Sanjay Seth today paid homage to the fallen heroes at the National War Memorial in New Delhi, commemorating Kargil Vijay Diwas. Honouring the sacrifice of the soldiers who defended the nation’s sovereignty, Mr Seth reaffirmed India’s enduring gratitude to its Defence Forces and their unwavering commitment to safeguarding the country.

Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla today saluted the brave soldiers who laid down their lives on the peaks of Kargil to safeguard the honour, pride and integrity of the nation on the occasion of Kargil Vijay Diwas.

In a social media post, Mr Birla said the unwavering dedication and supreme sacrifice of the Kargil heroes in the defence of the nation will continue to inspire generations.

He described 26th July 1999 as a golden chapter in the history of the Indian Army, symbolising its valour, courage and indomitable spirit.

Defence Secretary, Rajesh Kumar Singh also laid a wreath at the National War Memorial, New Delhi, in solemn remembrance of the soldiers who made the sacrifice during the Kargil War.

Chief of Defence Staff General N. S. Raja Subramani, along with Chief of the Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Amar Preet Singh, Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Krishna Swaminathan, and Vice Chief of the Army Staff Lieutenant General Sandeep Jain also paid tributes to the bravehearts at the National War Memorial, New Delhi.
