162 Vande Bharat train services currently operating across country: Govt

New Delhi, Jul 22, 2026 : The Government has informed that 162 Vande Bharat train services are currently operating across the country. In a written reply to a question in the Lok Sabha today, Union Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said the Railways has introduced indigenously designed and manufactured Vande Bharat trains to enhance the travel experience of passengers.

The Minister said the Vande Bharat Sleeper train has been indigenously designed and developed for long-distance travel. He added that the trains are aimed at improving passenger comfort while setting new benchmarks for safety and convenience. Mr Vaishnaw also informed that the first Vande Bharat Sleeper service, operating between Howrah and Kamakhya, began regular operations in January this year.
