In a statement issued on Thursday, the Assam BJP said the Budget, presented by Finance Minister Jayanta Malla Baruah under the leadership of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, outlines a roadmap for strengthening infrastructure, industrial development and connectivity, with the objective of positioning Assam as a major development hub over the next five years.

According to the statement, the government will launch AsomMala IV following the implementation of the first three phases of the programme. The initiative, which focuses on constructing 10-12 metre-wide long-distance roads across the state, will receive an allocation of Rs 10,000 crore in the 2026-27 Budget to build 800 kilometres of new roads.

The statement said that under AsomMala III, the state completed 880 kilometres of roads and 34 bridges across all 34 districts at an expenditure of approximately Rs 3,217 crore.

To boost tourism and regional connectivity, the Budget includes plans for a new railway line to Umrangso. It also provides for the development of five-star hotels at Manas National Park, Haflong and Umrangso.

In the aviation sector, the Budget proposes the upgradation of Rupsi Airport in Dhubri and the construction of the Dolu Greenfield Airport in Silchar. According to the statement, the Rupsi Airport upgrade is expected to strengthen transport and trade links with Bhutan and Bangladesh, as well as improve connectivity for Assam’s Dhubri and Kokrajhar districts.

The Budget also proposes a flyover connecting Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport in Guwahati to Jalukbari, with the aim of reducing travel time between the airport and Jalukbari to about seven to 10 minutes.
