‘A DAY TO REMEMBER’: CRICKET FRATERNITY HAILS INDIA’S LANDMARK WIN AT LORD’S

New Delhi, Jul 14, 2026 : Tributes poured in from across the cricketing world after India scripted history with a commanding 270-run victory over England in the first-ever women’s Test at Lord’s, with BCCI President Mithun Manhas, former India captains Mithali Raj and Ajinkya Rahane, former all-rounder Irfan Pathan, former England captain Michael Vaughan and several others lauding Harmanpreet Kaur’s side for the landmark achievement.

Off-spinner Sneh Rana starred with figures of 4-42 as India bowled England out for 186 on Monday while defending a formidable target of 457. Deepti Sharma chipped in with 2-36 as India sealed their seventh win in the last 11 women’s Tests and maintained their unbeaten record in red-ball cricket in England.

Leading the congratulatory messages, BCCI President Mithun Manhas hailed the team’s historic achievement.

“History in the making! Well done @BCCIWomen for achieving this extraordinary feat. The entire nation is proud of you. Congratulations to Harmanpreet, her team, and the support staff @BCCI. Jai Hind,” Manhas posted on X.

Former Indian middle-order batter Ajinkya Rahane also congratulated the team.

“What a special win! Congratulations to Harmanpreet Kaur and the entire team for making history at Lord’s. A performance to remember,” Rahane wrote on social media.

Former India women’s captain Mithali Raj praised the all-round effort.

“A complete team performance to seal a legendary, historic Test win in England! Two names added to the iconic Lord’s honours board in a single game, huge congratulations to @yastikabhatia for her sensational hundred and Kranti Gaud for her clinical five-wicket haul, brilliantly set up by @mandhana_smriti’s exceptional composure across both innings.”

Former National Cricket Academy head VVS Laxman described the victory as a memorable moment for Indian cricket.

“A truly special win. Congratulations to the Indian Women’s team on a memorable Test victory at Lord’s. Your skill, resilience, and fighting spirit have made the whole nation proud. Keep it up @BCCI,” Laxman posted on X.

Former England captain Michael Vaughan acknowledged India’s complete dominance in the match.

“Fantastic win for India at Lord’s in the historic Test match. India completely dominated an England team that once again fell far short of where they should be. Two showcase moments for the women’s game this past week. I enjoyed watching,” Vaughan wrote on X.

BCCI vice-president Rajeev Shukla also praised the side for scripting history at the iconic venue.

“Congratulations to Team India for winning against England @BCCI,” he posted.

Former India all-rounder Irfan Pathan hailed the collective effort.

“Victory with a touch of class. Well done, Indian Women’s team on the Test match victory vs England W. Smriti Mandhana, Deepti Sharma, Kranti Gaud, Yastika Bhatia, Richa Ghosh, Sneh Rana. You all were amazing. Well done, Captain Kaur.”

Former opener Shikhar Dhawan joined the chorus of praise.

“Champions don’t wait for history to happen. They create it. Congratulations to Team India Women on a memorable victory at Lord’s. @YastikaBhatia’s century, @mandhana_smriti’s outstanding performance, and Kranti’s brilliant bowling will be remembered for a long time. Proud moment for Indian cricket,” Dhawan posted on X.

Starting the day at 130/6, England’s slim hopes rested on overnight half-centurion Amy Jones. However, Sneh struck early to dismiss Jones for 54 before Deepti removed Issy Wong and Lauren Bell. Sneh wrapped up the match by bowling Sophie Ecclestone, who had earlier scored her maiden Test fifty.

India’s victory was built on standout performances across all four days. Vice-captain Smriti Mandhana scored 83 and 70, while Yastika Bhatia struck a superb 113 to become the first woman to score a Test century at Lord’s. Richa Ghosh added an unbeaten 50 off just 52 balls, while Kranti Gaud etched her name in the record books with the first five-wicket haul by a woman in a Test at the iconic venue.

The historic triumph came in the presence of batting legend Sachin Tendulkar, who addressed the Indian team before the start of play. ICC chairman Jay Shah, BCCI President Mithun Manhas, vice-president Rajeev Shukla and secretary Devajit Saikia were also present at Lord’s as India completed a memorable victory in the first women’s Test held at the venue in its 142-year history.
