Shillong hosts Durand Cup 2026 trophy
New Delhi, Jul 11, 2026 : The trophy of India’s oldest football tournament, the Durand Cup, was showcased in Shillong today as part of the run up to the 135th edition of the Durand Cup 2026. The Indian Armed Forces, in collaboration with the Government of Meghalaya, hosted the trophy showcase and flag-off ceremony for the upcoming Indian Oil Durand Cup 2026 at the State Convention Centre, Shillong.
India’s oldest football tournament will begin on July 31, with the final scheduled for August 23. This time, Shillong will host the tournament from July 31st to August 20th, 2026, with eight exciting matches, including six league matches, one quarterfinals, and one semi-finals. Meghalaya will be represented by three football clubs, namely, Shillong Lajong FC, Nongkseh Sports and Cultural Club, and Langsning Club.
The three glittering trophies, the Durand Cup, the rolling Shimla Trophy as well as the President’s Cup, which was instituted in 1956 by Dr Rajendra Prasad, will be taken on a roadshow, covering Shillong, Jowai and Tura from today to 14th July. The 135th edition will feature 24 teams from all over India and will be played in five destinations spread across the Eastern Command, which includes Ranchi, Kolkata, Guwahati, Imphal, and Shillong.
