GUWAHATI TEA AUCTION CENTRE SETS NEW BENCHMARKS FOR PREMIUM TEA PRICES
New Delhi, Jun 04, 2026 : The Guwahati Tea Auction Centre (GTAC) has recorded fresh milestones in premium tea sales, reinforcing its position as a leading marketplace for quality tea and rewarding producers for their sustained focus on excellence.
According to Dinesh Bihani, Secretary of the Guwahati Tea Auction Buyers Association, a premium line of CTC leaf from Deckiajuli Tea Estate fetched Rs 1,103 per kg at auction, marking one of the highest price realisations at the centre.
Another lot from the same estate was sold at Rs 973 per kg, reflecting strong demand and buyer confidence in high-quality teas, Bihani said.
Deckiajuli Tea Estate, owned by Parry Agro Industries Ltd., has consistently focused on the production of premium-quality tea.
Joe Louis, Associate Vice President (Marketing) at the company, said the sustained emphasis on quality over the years is yielding tangible results, with auction prices reflecting the dedication and efforts of the estate’s workforce.
In another significant achievement, tea from Sotai Tea Estate fetched Rs 889 per kg this week, the highest price ever recorded for the garden.
Highlighting the growing demand for quality teas, Bihani said that during Sale No. 23, more than 65,000 kg of tea was sold at prices above Rs 400 per kg, demonstrating strong appreciation from buyers for premium offerings at GTAC.
The tea sector has also received support from the Assam government, which recently announced a subsidy of Rs 15 per kg for orthodox tea manufacturers to encourage growth in the segment.
Currently the world’s second-largest auction centre for CTC tea, GTAC is aiming to expand its share of the orthodox tea market. Industry stakeholders believe this could attract more export-oriented buyers and facilitate direct exports through the auction platform.
With rising demand for premium teas and growing support for orthodox production, GTAC continues to strengthen its standing as a key global hub for quality tea, benefiting producers, buyers and the broader tea industry.
