Oath-taking ceremony of newly elected West Bengal MLAs underway in Kolkata

New Delhi, May 13, 2026 : The oath-taking ceremony for the newly elected MLAs of the 18th West Bengal Legislative Assembly is underway in Kolkata. Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari took the oath from the Bhabanipur seat as MLA, and the Nandigram seat has been left vacant. Afterwards, five other cabinet ministers also took the oath. On the other hand, Humayun Kabir, the Aam Janata Unnayan Party MLA, took oath for the Nowda seat. Kabir also won from the Rejinagar seat.

The Protem Speaker Tapas Roy administered the oath. Today, the oath-taking ceremony is being held in two sessions. The second session will start on 2 pm and would continue till 4:30 pm. Today, MLAs from 1 to 157 assembly constituencies are taking an oath, excluding the Falta Assembly constituency for which a repoll would be taken on May 21st.
