Shamik Bhattacharya condemns killing of Suvendu Adhikari aide
New Delhi, May 07, 2026 : In West Bengal, political tensions have escalated following the murder of Suvendu Adhikari’s personal aide, Chandranath Rath. BJP’s state president, Shamik Bhattacharya has strongly condemned the killing, calling it a planned, vengeful, political assassination. He warned the Trinamool Congress about its consequences.
Chandranath’s body is currently at Barasat Medical College and Hospital, where a post-mortem is scheduled for today. Shamik Bhattacharya described Rath as a non-political figure with no ties to politics, questioning the motive behind his murder. He also raised concerns about whether the killing was intended as a message ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s upcoming visit to the state for the new government’s swearing-in ceremony.
The BJP leader alleged that local miscreants and Trinamool leaders could not have been unaware of such a major planned attack. He reminded party workers to remain calm and urged police to act impartially, but expressed deep anger over the incident.
Accusing Trinamool of fostering lawlessness, Bhattacharya claimed that for the past 15 years criminals have operated fearlessly in the Barasat-Madhyamgram region, engaging in activities such as forging Aadhaar and ration cards. He alleged that many infiltrators caught across India had obtained fake documents from this area.
