BJP slams Mamata Banerjee over refusal to resign
New Delhi, May 06, 2026 : The BJP has said India is a democracy and it must always be respected. Reacting to alleged remarks by outgoing West Bengal Chief Minister, Mamata Banerjee, that she will not resign, BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra termed the comments anarchic and urged restraint in making such statements.
Mr Patra said that the remarks are concerning because in the country’s democracy, the transfer of power has always taken place in a peaceful manner. He added that this is not an attack on the BJP but it is an attack on democracy and on the Constitution.
Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has condemned the alleged remarks of Trinamool Congress Chief Mamata Banerjee that she will not resign and tender her resignation to the Governor as the outgoing Chief Minister.
In a social media post, he accused that resistance to accountability and the refusal to accept the public’s mandate by the Trinamool Congress is an example of compromised democracy in Bengal.
He said that Ms Banerjee is not just rejecting the people’s mandate but also attempting to erode the credibility of institutions like the Election Commission and security forces, undermining the pillars that ensure free, fair and secure elections.
