AADHAAR ‘NEW LOOK’ CLAIMS BASELESS, NO CHANGE PLANNED: GOVT
New Delhi, May 04, 2026 : The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology on Sunday clarified that there is no proposal to change the existing format of Aadhaar cards to a simplified version featuring only a photograph and QR code.
Responding to a series of media reports and social media posts claiming that Aadhaar would soon get a “new look”, the Ministry said the information is incorrect and has no basis.
Further, it warned that such messages are creating unnecessary confusion among citizens and urged people to rely only on official communications from the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) through PIB releases and verified social media handles.
The Ministry also advised media platforms not to circulate or amplify unverified claims regarding Aadhaar changes. Citizens have been asked to ignore such rumours and depend strictly on authentic government sources for updates.
