PM OFFERS PRAYERS IN BENGAL

New Delhi, Apr 27, 2026 : Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday offered prayers at the Matua Thakur Temple in Thakurnagar, ahead of the second phase of the West Bengal Assembly elections.

In a post on X, the Prime Minister said he prayed at the temple and noted that the ideals of Harichand Thakur and Guruchand Thakur continue to guide society.

Earlier in the day, addressing a Vijay Sankalp Sabha in Bangaon, Modi expressed confidence in a favourable outcome for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the ongoing Assembly polls. He urged voters to extend the same support in the next phase as seen in the first phase of polling.

The Prime Minister criticised the ruling Trinamool Congress, alleging that its governance has adversely affected the state. Referring to the party’s slogan “Maa, Maati, Manush,” he questioned its relevance, claiming that the promises associated with it have not been fulfilled.

Highlighting West Bengal’s potential, PM Modi said the BJP aims to bring development and good governance to the state. He also invoked the ideals of Subhas Chandra Bose while seeking public support in the upcoming phase of polling.

Polling for the first phase of the Assembly elections concluded on Thursday, with West Bengal recording a voter turnout of 91.78 per cent, according to the Election Commission of India.

The second phase of polling is scheduled for April 29, while the counting of votes will take place on May 4.
