EC says scrutiny of Form 17A completed in WB and TN

New Delhi, Apr 25, 2026 : The Election Commission of India said that the scrutiny of Form 17A (Register of Voters) has been completed in West Bengal and Tamil Nadu. The Election Commission has issued consolidated instructions for the post-poll scrutiny and other poll-day records. This aims to enhance transparency, detect any irregularities at polling stations, and recommend re-polls where necessary.

The Election Commission said that scrutiny of documents was carried out smoothly yesterday across all 152 Assembly Constituencies in West Bengal that went to polls in Phase-I. The Commission said that the process was conducted by Returning Officers in the presence of General Observers and more than 600 candidates or their representatives. It added that all one thousand four hundred 78 candidates were informed in advance about the date, time, and venue of the scrutiny.

Election Commission further informed that a similar exercise was undertaken in Tamil Nadu, where scrutiny was completed across all two hundred 34 Assembly Constituencies in the presence of General Observers and one thousand eight hundred 25 candidates or their representatives. The Commission stated that the comprehensive scrutiny process reinforces the integrity of the electoral system and ensures greater confidence among stakeholders.
