India is well-positioned in pharma industry: Union Minister

New Delhi, Apr 13, 2026 : Health and Family Welfare Minister J P Nadda today said that India is well-positioned in the pharma industry in the changing global pharmaceutical landscape. In his video message at India Pharma 2026, organised by FICCI in New Delhi, the Minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to creating a policy framework that supports innovation, strengthens research capabilities and promotes value-based growth.

He added that over the years, India has gained recognition as the pharmacy of the world, driven by its leadership in affordable and generic medicines. Addressing the gathering, Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare Anupriya Patel said that the entire global community is today looking for affordable Biosimilars, and the market is expanding rapidly. The Minister underlined that the market is expected to grow to around 75 billion dollars by 2030.

She added that there is immense scope and a significant revenue opportunity for the Indian pharmaceutical industry, and the industry must be prepared for this transition. Ms Patel noted that India has been the largest supplier of generics all over the world and has been fulfilling 20 per cent of the global requirement, along with 70 per cent of the requirement for vaccines.
