PM EXTENDS EASTER GREETINGS

New Delhi, Apr 05, 2026 : Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday extended greetings to citizens on the occasion of Easter, highlighting the festival’s message of hope, renewal, and unity.

In a post on X, the Prime Minister said, “Greetings on Easter. This sacred day celebrates hope and renewal. May it bring peace, joy and brightness to everyone’s lives. May the teachings of Jesus Christ inspire all to be kind and strengthen the spirit of togetherness in society.”

Easter, one of the most significant festivals in Christianity, is being celebrated across India and across the world with devotion and enthusiasm. Churches are holding special prayers and Masses to mark the resurrection of Jesus Christ, which is believed to have taken place three days after his crucifixion.

The festival follows a 40-day period of Lent, which began on Ash Wednesday and is observed through fasting, prayer, and reflection. The final week, known as Holy Week, includes Palm Sunday, Maundy Thursday, and Good Friday, commemorating key events leading up to the crucifixion.

Meanwhile, Pope Leo XIV, while presiding over the Easter Vigil Mass at St. Peter’s Basilica, called on people to overcome fear, mistrust, and resentment, which he said continue to divide societies and nations.

He urged the faithful not to be weighed down by these challenges, emphasizing the need to strengthen unity and compassion in a world facing conflict and division.

Easter, which marks the triumph of life over death and hope over despair, continues to be celebrated as a symbol of faith, renewal, and collective harmony.
