RURAL LOCAL BODIES IN ASSAM RECEIVE OVER RS.299 CRORE
New Delhi, Mar 10, 2026 : Rural local bodies across Assam have received over Rs.299 crore under the Fifteenth Finance Commission grants for the financial year 2025–26, Ministry of Panchayati Raj said in a statement.
The assistance includes Rs.256.60 crore as the second instalment of untied grants for FY 2025–26. The funds will benefit 27 District Panchayats, 182 Block Panchayats, and 2,192 Gram Panchayats across the state, enabling these local institutions to address development priorities and local needs more effectively.
In addition, Rs.42.70 crore has been provided to three Autonomous District Councils — Bodoland Territorial Council, Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council, and Dima Hasao Autonomous Council — strengthening governance and development efforts in these autonomous regions.
The grants are recommended by the Ministry of Panchayati Raj and the Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation under the Ministry of Jal Shakti, and are released by the Ministry of Finance in two instalments during the financial year.
Untied grants enable Panchayati Raj Institutions to address location-specific development needs under the 29 subjects listed in the Eleventh Schedule of the Constitution, while tied grants support essential services such as sanitation, maintaining open defecation free status, and improving drinking water supply, including rainwater harvesting and water recycling.
