Former Assam congress chief Bhupen Kumar Borah joins BJP

New Delhi, Feb 22, 2026 : Former Assam Congress chief Bhupen Kumar Borah joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Guwahati today in the presence of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and State BJP President Dilip Saikia.

A veteran politician from Assam, Borah was associated with the Indian National Congress for over three decades before recently resigning from the party. He represented the erstwhile Bihpuria constituency in the Assam Legislative Assembly from 2006 to 2016. However, he lost the seat to the BJP in the 2016 and 2021 Assembly elections.
