ECI reviews poll preparedness for forthcoming assembly elections in Assam

New Delhi, Feb 19, 2026 : Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar said that the Legislative Assembly Election dates of Assam will be announced, considering the State’s biggest festival, Bihu, which falls in mid-April. Addressing the media persons in Guwahati after reviewing the State’s preparedness for the upcoming Assembly Elections, the Chief Election Commissioner said that at an appropriate time, the Commission will announce the election date for 126 Assembly Constituencies of Assam.

Meanwhile, most of the political parties requested a single phase or a maximum of two phases of polling. The political parties also demanded that the election process be concluded before Bohag Bihu, the main festival of the Assamese people. The full bench of the Election Commission was on a three-day-long tour headed by Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar to review the state’s preparedness for the upcoming General Assembly Elections.
