AI is the fifth industrial revolution: Union Minister

New Delhi, Feb 17, 2026 : Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw today said that AI is the fifth industrial revolution. Talking to media on the second day of India AI Impact Summit 2026 in New Delhi, the Minister said that the summit is serving as a platform to solve big problems on a population scale and a new energy can be seen among the youth. He added that AI can be used to improve economy and society as a whole, alongside balancing harms that come with this technology. Mr Vaishnaw said, following this summit, there is an expectation of more than 200 billion dollars over the next two years. The Minister further highlighted about the good framework which has been established with digital public infrastructure in the nation, leading to rapid diffusion of AI in India.
