RAILWAY RECRUITMENT UNDERWAY FOR OVER 1.43 LAKH NON-GAZETTED POSTS
New Delhi, Feb 05, 2026 : The Indian Railways is in the process of recruiting 1,43,086 non-gazetted personnel as per the Annual Recruitment Calendar for 2024 and 2025, with major stages of examinations already completed and selection panels finalised for more than 31,000 candidates.
In a written reply to a question in the Lok Sabha, Union Minister for Railways Ashwini Vaishnaw on Wednesday said that recruitment action has been taken up against all notified vacancies. During January-December 2024, the Railways issued 10 Centralised Employment Notifications (CENs) for 92,116 posts across various categories, including Assistant Loco Pilots (ALPs), Technicians, Junior Engineers (JEs), Railway Protection Force (RPF) Sub-Inspectors and Constables, Paramedical staff, Non-Technical Popular Categories (Graduate and Under-Graduate), Ministerial and Isolated Categories, and Level-1 posts such as Track Maintainers and Pointsmen.
Vaishnaw said that the first or single-stage Computer Based Tests (CBTs) for 59,678 posts have been completed. These examinations witnessed massive participation, with over 25 crore candidates appearing across 156 cities in up to 15 languages for different categories. The largest number of candidates appeared for the Non-Technical Popular Categories (Under-Graduate) and RPF Constable examinations.
The second-stage CBTs for key posts such as ALP, JE/DMS/CMA, and Non-Technical Popular Categories (Graduate and Under-Graduate) have also been completed, involving over 5.5 lakh candidates across multiple cities. In addition, Computer Based Aptitude Tests (CBATs) for ALPs and Non-Technical Popular Categories, along with skill and typing tests for graduate-level and ministerial posts, have been conducted.
Recruitment processes for Level-1 categories covering 32,438 vacancies commenced on November 27, 2025, across 140 cities in 15 languages. The Physical Efficiency Test (PET) for 4,208 RPF Constable posts was completed on December 6, 2025.
The Minister informed that panels for more than 31,000 candidates have already been finalised for posts including Technicians, Junior Engineers, Paramedical categories, RPF Sub-Inspectors, and Assistant Loco Pilots, with a majority of these appointments in safety-related categories.
Additionally, under the Annual Calendar for 2025, nine more CENs have been issued for 50,970 vacancies, including posts in Southern Railway and the Integral Coach Factory (ICF).
