‘Out Of Pocket’ expenditure in India on health treatment reduced to 39.4% in last 10 years: JP Nadda
New Delhi, Feb 03, 2026 : Union Health Minister JP Nadda has said that ‘Out Of Pocket’ expenditure in India on health treatment has reduced to 39.4 percent from 62.6 percent in the last 10 years. Replying during the question hour on affordable health care, the Minister said this shows how the common people of the country are getting benefit from it. Giving details of the other schemes in the Healthcare sector, Mr Nadda said the government is providing free drugs and diagnostics to District hospitals,Primary Health Centers and Communities Health Centre through the Nation Health Mission.
He informed the House that under the Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana, the government is providing generic medicines around 60 to 80 percent cheaper than the market rates. Mr Nadda said there are around 18,000 Janaushadhi outlets across the country. He said there is provision of cashless treatment during the hospitalisation under the PradhanMantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PM-JAY). The Minister Informed that under the AMRIT (Affordable Medicines and Reliable Implants for Treatment) the government is providing branded medicines at least 50 percent lesser rate than of the rate in the market.
