Nation celebrates 16th National Voters’ Day

New Delhi, Jan 25, 2026 : The 16th National Voters’ Day is being celebrated across the country today. The theme this year is My India, My Vote highlighting the central role of citizens in India’s democracy.

On the Voters Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said that becoming a voter is a moment of pride that should be celebrated. In a social media post, he shared a letter written by him to MY-Bharat volunteers.

ECI is organizing several activities at national and state level to promote voter awareness, especially among first-time voters. These activities include National Electoral Awards event, which will recognize the Best Election Districts and various Launches in the presence of the President.

Meanwhile, other activities at educational institutes are also being encouraged to hold debates, discussions, and competitions to inspire young people to become responsible voters.

The celebrations emphasize that every vote counts and every citizen has a vital role in India’s democratic journey. With growing voter participation, increasing women enrolment, and expanding infrastructure, India’s democratic journey continues to inspire the world.

Vice-President C P Radhakrishnan has extended greetings to countrymen on National Voters’ Day. In a social media post, the Vice-President said that the country’s electoral journey over the past 75 years has been a remarkable testament to the strength, resilience, and inclusiveness of democracy, upholding the values enshrined in the Constitution.

Mr Radhakrishnan said that citizens contribute to inclusive and credible democratic processes by exercising the right to vote with responsibility and awareness. He also called on the citizens to reaffirm their faith in the electoral system and the commitment to shaping the nation’s democratic future through informed and active participation.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah today extended his greetings to all the citizens on National Voters Day. In a social media post, Mr Shah said that this day reminds that Indian constitution has given every voter equal power and that exercising the right vote responsibly can guide the nation in the right direction.

He also emphasized that it is moral responsibility of every citizen to safeguard the voting system and ensure that no external factor can pollute it. Home Minister added that on this day, every citizen should recommit themselves to the pledge of aligning the power of their votes towards building a developed and powerful India.

External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar has extended good wishes to all citizens on the occasion of National Voters Day. In a social media post, Dr Jaishankar said that voting is both a right and a responsibility. He also noted that exercising this right with awareness and sincerity plays a vital role in strengthening India’s democracy and the nation as a whole.
