CENTRE INVITES NOMINATIONS FOR SUKHATME NATIONAL AWARD IN STATISTICS–2026
New Delhi, Jan 16, 2026 : The Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) has invited nominations for the Sukhatme National Award in Statistics – 2026, a prestigious honour instituted to recognise exceptional and outstanding contributions to the field of official statistics.
According to an official release, the award aims to acknowledge eminent Indian statisticians who have made high-quality research contributions that have helped strengthen and improve the system of official statistics in the country.
Instituted in the year 2000, the Sukhatme National Award in Statistics is conferred in alternate years on Indian statisticians aged 45 years and above for their lifetime contributions and achievements in the field of statistics.
Nominations for the 2026 award have been invited online through the National Awards Portal at www.awards.gov.in
. The last date for submission of applications and nominations is January 31, 2026. Eligible candidates may nominate themselves, while institutions are also permitted to propose names.
The award will be presented during the Statistics Day function on June 29. It carries a citation, a shawl and a memento. As part of the ceremony, the awardee will also be invited to deliver a session highlighting the significance of their work and contributions.
