PRAGATI DRIVES TIMELY IMPLEMENTATION OF MAJOR INFRASTRUCTURE PROJECTS
New Delhi, Jan 09, 2026 : The Prime Minister’s flagship platform for Pro-Active Governance and Timely Implementation (PRAGATI) continues to transform India’s project implementation landscape by enabling real-time monitoring and resolution of key infrastructure initiatives and public grievances through direct review at the highest level of government.
Launched in 2015 and chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, PRAGATI has become a cornerstone of India’s governance framework, bringing together the Centre, State governments and Union Ministries on a unified digital interface. The platform aims to ensure accountability, enhance inter-governmental coordination and expedite the execution of complex projects facing implementation challenges.
A notable example of PRAGATI’s impact is the Parbati-II Hydroelectric Project in Himachal Pradesh. Developed by NHPC Limited on the Parbati River in Kullu district, Parbati-II is among India’s most technically complex and strategically important hydropower developments. Designed to generate approximately 3,074 million units of clean electricity annually, the project strengthens energy security for the Northern Grid and benefits multiple states including Himachal Pradesh, Delhi, Jammu & Kashmir, Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, West Bengal, Chhattisgarh, and the Union Territory of Chandigarh.
Despite its significance, the project encountered major implementation hurdles during construction. Delays arose due to issues related to land mutation, even though physical possession of acquired land had been largely completed. The execution of the main headrace tunnel also faced setbacks owing to the region’s extremely fragile Himalayan geology.
Parbati-II Hydroelectric Project saw major progress, with three of its four generating units commencing commercial operation on April 1 last year. The fourth unit was commissioned on April 16, resulting in the full commercial commissioning of all 800 megawatts of capacity. Officials say the project’s successful completion demonstrates India’s growing capability to plan, execute and deliver technically demanding infrastructure in challenging environments when guided by leadership-driven oversight.
PRAGATI’s impact extends beyond individual projects. By fostering collaborative problem-solving, enabling regular monitoring through digital tools and providing a platform for swift resolution of administrative and procedural bottlenecks, the scheme has strengthened cooperative federalism and enhanced the government’s ability to deliver public infrastructure on time.
