REAL ESTATE SECTOR KEY TO VIKSIT BHARAT VISION, SAYS AMIT SHAH
New Delhi, Dec 20, 2025 : Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah on Friday said that the Modi government has laid a strong foundation for world-class infrastructure and urban development, calling upon the real estate sector to play a responsible role in achieving the vision of Viksit Bharat @ 2047.
Addressing CREDAI’s national conference in the national capital, Shah said Prime Minister Narendra Modi has set the goal of making India the world’s leading nation across all sectors by 2047. He said that over the past 11 years, the government has undertaken extensive work on next-generation infrastructure, yielding positive outcomes for urban development and economic growth.
The Home Minister said flagship initiatives such as the National Infrastructure Pipeline have strengthened urban infrastructure and created a roadmap to place India among countries with the best infrastructure globally. He added that sustained reforms and removal of sectoral bottlenecks have accelerated growth across industries, including real estate.
Highlighting CREDAI’s role, Shah said the organisation has provided reliability and credibility to the developer community by promoting ethical practices and a strong code of conduct. He noted that CREDAI represents nearly 13,000 developers across 230 cities in 21 states and has played a key role in structuring the real estate sector as a recognised industry.
Shah said urbanisation in India is expected to rise to around 40 per cent by 2035 and nearly 50 per cent by 2047, placing significant responsibility on developers to meet housing needs. He urged CREDAI to formulate affordable and eco-friendly housing schemes suited to different urban segments and emphasised that large developers should also move towards low-cost housing.
Calling for sustainable development, the Home Minister said green building norms, rainwater harvesting, water recycling, scientific waste management, and energy-efficient designs should become the new normal in housing projects. He urged developers to increase green areas in project designs, stating that this would improve the environment and promote afforestation.
Referring to reforms undertaken by the government, Shah said RERA has emerged as a globally recognised framework that protects homebuyers, ensures transparency, and improves construction quality. He added that more than 1.55 lakh real estate projects and over 1.10 lakh developers are registered under RERA across the country.
The Home Minister said the real estate sector has benefited significantly from GST reforms, noting reductions in tax rates on affordable housing, construction materials, and related inputs, resulting in lower construction costs. He added that measures such as 100 per cent FDI through the automatic route and the ?60,000 crore National Urban Housing Fund have further strengthened the sector.
