Indian Railways takes steps to enhance passenger comfort and cleaner railway operations

New Delhi, Dec 17, 2025 : The Ministry of Railways has taken several steps to enhance passengers’ comfort, strengthening rail infrastructure and moving towards cleaner and sustainable railway operations.

To redefine rail travel in India, Indian Railways launched Vande Bharat Express in 2019. Today, 164 world-class Vande Bharat services connect major cities across the Nation, offering faster, safer, and more comfortable journeys. Since 2019, more than 7 crore 50 lakh passengers have experienced this high-tech train.

Built under the Make in India initiative, each train set comes with advanced features. These include automatic plug doors, rotating seats and bio-vacuum toilets. They also have GPS-based passenger information systems and full CCTV coverage, ensuring a world-class travel experience for every passenger. These trains connect India’s cultural, spiritual, and economic hubs with speed and comfort. These trains are operational in 274 districts across the country. This wide reach is improving travel, tourism, and regional connectivity nationwide.

Indian Railways has also made strong progress in using solar energy across its rail network. The Railway Ministry said that over 26 hundred railway stations are utilising solar power today. This wide-scale adoption is helping reduce energy costs.

The Ministry said that such measures reaffirm Indian Railways’ commitment to achieve Net Zero Carbon Emissions by 2030.

Meanwhile, Banaras Locomotive Works (BLW), a public sector undertaking under Indian Railways, has successfully dispatched the sixth indigenously manufactured three thousand 300 Horse Power AC-AC diesel-electric locomotive to Mozambique yesterday, emerging as a key export hub for locomotive manufacturing.

Aligned with the vision of Make in India and Make for the World, these exports demonstrate Indian Railways’ ability to design, manufacture and supply rolling stock for different gauge systems prevalent globally.

Through such initiatives, Indian Railways is supporting partner countries in upgrading their rail infrastructure while reinforcing India’s position as a reliable exporter of railway rolling stock and related services.
