THE CENTRAL GOVERNMENT HAS EXTENDED THE LAST DATE FOR FILING GSTR-3B RETURNS

New Delhi, Oct 19, 2025 : The central government has extended the deadline for filing tax returns under GSTR-3B by five days. Taxpayers can now file and pay taxes for the month of September and the July-to-September quarter until October 25th. Previously, the deadline was October 20th.

The Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) made the announcement in a notification on Sunday. The CBIC also shared the information on the social media platform 'X'. GSTR-3B is a summary return that businesses registered under GST are required to file on a monthly or quarterly basis.

Typically, the deadline for filing returns is the 20th, 22nd, or 24th of each month, depending on the taxpayer's category. However, this time, due to Diwali on October 20th, most offices and businesses are closed or operating with limited staff, the government has extended this exemption. Experts believe this move will be a major relief for small and medium-sized businesses, which faced difficulties in filing taxes during the festive season.

Earlier this year, the GST Network (GSTN) clarified that the GSTR-3B form will now be auto-populated based on the sales data recorded in the GSTR-1 form. If any data changes are required, taxpayers will be able to update them through the GSTR-1A form. The revised data will then automatically reflect in the GSTR-3B. The government says this process aims to increase the accuracy of tax data and prevent tax leakage, while bringing transparency to the GST system.
