PM WELCOMES PRESIDENT TRUMP'S LEADERSHIP REGARDING PEACE EFFORTS IN GAZA

New Delhi, Oct 04, 2025 : Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday welcomed US President Donald Trump's leadership in making decisive progress in peace efforts in Gaza. PM Modi said the signs of the hostage release are an important step in the ongoing humanitarian and diplomatic efforts.

According to a statement issued by the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) on Saturday, PM Modi reaffirmed that India remains steadfast in its commitment to support all initiatives that contribute to lasting and just peace in the region.

In a post on social media handle X, PM Modi wrote, "Amid decisive progress in peace efforts in Gaza, we welcome President Trump's leadership. The indications of the release of hostages are an important step."

PM Modi said that India will continue to strongly support all efforts towards lasting and just peace.

Meanwhile, amid the ongoing Gaza-Israel conflict, the Palestinian armed group Hamas has expressed its willingness to negotiate a peace proposal from US President Donald Trump. UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres welcomed Hamas's decision, according to the UN chief's spokesman, Stephane Dujarric.

Dujarric said in a statement that UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres welcomes and is encouraged by the statement issued by Hamas. The spokesperson said that UN chief Antonio Guterres urged all parties to seize the opportunity to end the conflict in the Gaza Strip and thanked Qatar and Egypt for their invaluable mediation work.

The Secretary-General reiterated his call for an immediate and lasting ceasefire, the immediate and unconditional release of all hostages, and unimpeded humanitarian access. He said the United Nations would support all efforts towards these objectives to prevent further suffering.

Meanwhile, Trump said on Truth Social on Friday, "Based on Hamas' statement, I believe they are ready for lasting peace. Israel should stop bombing Gaza immediately. We are already discussing the details that need to be worked out. This isn't just about Gaza; it's about long-sought peace in the Middle East."

On Monday, the US President presented a 20-point peace proposal after talks with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, which includes a ceasefire agreement, the release of hostages, the demilitarization of Gaza, and a framework for international monitoring of Gaza's reconstruction and administration after the conflict ends.
