MIZORAM CONNECTED TO RAIL NETWORK FOR THE FIRST TIME
New Delhi, Sep 13, 2025 : Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday virtually inaugurated and laid the foundation stone of several development projects worth more than Rs 9,000 crore in Mizoram. He also inaugurated the 51.38 km long Bairabi-Sairang railway project and three new trains. It is a historic day for Mizoram as it has been included in the railway map of India. On this occasion, Prime Minister Modi flagged off three trains.

The Bairabi-Sairang new railway line has been constructed at a cost of over Rs 8,070 crore. It reflects the central government's commitment towards world-class infrastructure and last-mile connectivity. This railway line is built in a challenging hilly area. For this, 45 tunnels have been built under complex geographical conditions. It also includes 55 big bridges and 88 small bridges.

PM Modi joined the program through video conferencing today on Saturday. He had left for Mizoram. However, unfortunately he could not reach Aizawl due to bad weather. After this, he participated in the program virtually at the Mizoram airport itself.
PM Modi said:
Addressing the event, he said Mizoram is playing an important role in India's development journey. This is a historic day for the nation, especially the people of Mizoram. Now Aizawl will be on the railway map of India.
PM Modi said, “A few years ago I had the opportunity to lay the foundation stone of the Aizawl railway line and today we feel proud to dedicate it to the countrymen. The Bairabi-Sairang railway line has become a reality by overcoming many challenges including difficult terrain. The skill of our engineers and the enthusiasm of our workers have made it possible.”
For the first time, Mizoram's Sairang will be directly connected to the national capital Delhi:
The Prime Minister also said that for the first time, Sairang in Mizoram will be directly connected to the national capital Delhi. This is not just a railway, but a lifeline of change. It will revolutionize the lives and livelihoods of the people of Mizoram. Farmers and businesses of Mizoram will be able to access more markets across the country. People will also get better opportunities for education and healthcare. This development will create employment opportunities in many sectors.
