HIGH ALERT ON INDIA-NEPAL BORDER AMID VIOLENT PROTESTS IN NEPAL
New Delhi, Sep 10, 2025 : The violent protests in Nepal for the last two days have put the security system on high alert on the India-Nepal border. Central agencies have issued a warning based on intelligence that miscreants may take advantage of the unrest in Nepal and incite violence in border Indian states like Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and West Bengal. Due to this, the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) and the local police have unprecedentedly tightened surveillance and security measures on the nearly 1,751 km long open border.

India has taken immediate steps to prevent the unrest from having a cross-border impact. Intelligence sources have warned that anti-social elements can take advantage of this instability. Security measures have been further tightened to prevent any possible breach of law and order along the 1,751-km-long open border in Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal and Bihar.

In Bihar's Madhubani too, the SSB has been deployed at border outposts. Superintendent of Police Yogendra Kumar said, "Madhubani police is on full alert in view of the current situation in Nepal. All border police stations are on high alert. All circle inspectors and station staff are in the field, especially at border outposts, where 24-hour vigil is being maintained."

He said, "People crossing the border are being allowed entry only after thorough checking. We are ensuring that no anti-social elements are able to cross the border."
Security has been beefed up in seven border districts in Uttar Pradesh (Pilibhit, Lakhimpur Kheri, Bahraich, Shravasti, Balrampur, Siddharthnagar and Maharajganj). Director General of Police Rajiv Krishna said the security strategy includes 24-hour patrolling and strict checking at entry points, with 73 checkpoints put on high alert.
"We are keeping an eye on the law and order situation in Nepal. We are in constant coordination with the BSF and other security officials," said Sankalp Sharma, senior superintendent of police in Lakhimpur Kheri district.
He said joint patrolling is being done and adequate police force has been deployed. Officials said the situation at the Gauriphanta border (which connects Palia tehsil to Dhangadhi in Nepal) is tense but remains calm under strict surveillance. Meanwhile, the India-Nepal border at Panitanki in Darjeeling district of West Bengal has also been put on high alert, where security forces are monitoring 24 hours.
