PM MODI LEAVES FOR INDIA AFTER CONCLUDING ‘PRODUCTIVE VISIT’ TO CHINA

New Delhi, Sep 01, 2025 : Prime Minister Narendra Modi departed for India on Monday after a “productive” visit to China, where he attended the 25th Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit in Tianjin. During the visit, he also held bilateral meetings with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping.

“Concluding a productive visit to China, where I attended the SCO Summit and interacted with various world leaders. Also emphasised India’s stand on key global issues. Thankful to President Xi Jinping, the Chinese government and people for the successful organisation of this Summit,” said PM Modi in a post on X.

During his bilateral meeting with President Putin, PM Modi reaffirmed that cooperation between New Delhi and Moscow is vital for global peace, stability, and prosperity.

At the SCO Summit, the Prime Minister called for decisive action against terror financing and radicalisation. Referring to the recent Pahalgam terror attack, he urged the group to hold accountable those countries that perpetrate and support cross-border terrorism. He also congratulated Kyrgyzstan on assuming the SCO presidency.

The summit witnessed wide-ranging discussions on the SCO Development Strategy, reform of global governance, counter-terrorism, peace and security, economic and financial cooperation, and sustainable development.

In his address, PM Modi highlighted India’s approach to strengthening cooperation under the SCO framework, emphasising action along three key pillars – security, connectivity, and opportunity.

On Sunday, the Prime Minister held bilateral talks with President Xi Jinping, where both leaders welcomed the positive momentum and steady progress in bilateral ties since their meeting in Kazan during the BRICS Summit in October 2024. The two leaders reaffirmed that India and China are “development partners, not rivals,” and agreed that differences should not be allowed to turn into disputes. They stressed the need for stable relations based on mutual respect, mutual interest, and mutual sensitivity—vital for the growth of both countries, as well as for shaping a multipolar Asia and a multipolar world.

PM Modi also interacted with a series of world leaders on the sidelines of the SCO Summit reception, including those from the Maldives, Nepal, Laos, Vietnam, Armenia, and Turkmenistan, underscoring India’s commitment to expanding cooperation across diverse sectors with Southeast Asia, Central Asia, and Eurasia.

Before arriving in China, the Prime Minister had been on a two-day visit to Japan, where he attended the India-Japan Annual Summit. He hailed the productive outcomes of the visit to Tokyo and expressed hope that India-Japan ties would scale new heights in the future.
