BIHAR CABINET CLEARS ‘MUKHYAMANTRI MAHILA ROJGAR YOJANA’
New Delhi, Aug 29, 2025 : New DelhiThe Nitish Kumar government on Friday approved a flagship scheme aimed at empowering women through financial assistance and promoting self-reliance.
The ‘Mukhyamantri Mahila Rojgar Yojana’, cleared at a cabinet meeting chaired by the Chief Minister, provides for initial aid of Rs.10,000 to one woman from each family in Bihar to start an employment activity of her choice.
According to officials, applications will be invited soon and direct benefit transfers into beneficiaries’ accounts will begin in September. After six months of commencement of work, an assessment will be conducted, and depending on the outcome, women may be eligible for additional support of up to Rs.2 lakh.
The government also plans to set up haat bazaars in villages, towns and cities to help women entrepreneurs market their products.
Officials said the scheme is expected to generate large-scale employment for women, raise family incomes, improve living standards and reduce out-migration from Bihar.
Welcoming the decision, JD(U) MLC Neeraj Kumar said, “Since 2005, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has taken several initiatives for women — from giving 35 per cent reservation in government jobs to strengthening Jeevika groups. The new scheme will make women more self-reliant.”
