PM MODI WELCOMES RETURN OF FIDE WORLD CUP TO INDIA
New Delhi, Aug 27, 2025 : Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed pride and enthusiasm as India prepares to host the FIDE World Cup 2025, marking the prestigious chess tournament’s return to Indian soil after more than two decades.
Responding to a post by the International Chess Federation (FIDE) on X, the Prime Minister said:
“India is delighted to be hosting the prestigious FIDE World Cup 2025 and that too after over two decades. Chess is gaining popularity among our youth. I am sure this tournament will witness thrilling matches and showcase the brilliance of top players from around the world.”
The FIDE World Cup is a key event in the international chess calendar, attracting elite players from across the globe. India, which has produced several top-ranking players in recent years, is looking forward to a series of competitive and engaging matches during the tournament.
The event is expected to further boost interest in chess among Indian youth and reinforce the country’s growing stature in the global chess community.
