LEADERS HAIL ISRO ON NATIONAL SPACE DAY

New Delhi, Aug 23, 2025 : Top political leaders and Union Ministers on Saturday hailed the achievements of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) as the nation celebrated the second National Space Day, marking the historic Chandrayaan-3 landing on the Moon’s South Pole in 2023.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah led the tributes, saying every Indian heart “swells with pride” while recalling the successful soft landing of Chandrayaan-3. He credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “visionary leadership” for propelling India’s space ambitions and inspiring youth through missions like Chandrayaan-3 and Aditya.

Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari said the Chandrayaan-3 mission “symbolises the immense potential of New India” and saluted the “tireless efforts” of scientists who placed the nation at the “pinnacle of space exploration.” Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal described the day as one of “exploration, empowerment, and excellence,” calling India’s space journey “a reflection of ancient wisdom and infinite possibilities.”

Union Minister Kiren Rijiju wrote that National Space Day was a reminder that “no dream is too high when backed by courage and conviction,” while Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath hailed Chandrayaan-3 as an “indelible mark in global space history.”

National Space Day, declared by Prime Minister Modi in 2024, is celebrated annually on August 23 to honour ISRO’s milestone lunar mission. This year’s theme, “Aryabhatta to Gaganyaan: Ancient Wisdom to Infinite Possibilities,” links India’s rich astronomical legacy with its modern-day space ambitions.

To mark the day, NCERT introduced a new module, ‘India – A Rising Space Power,’ in schools across Uttar Pradesh, highlighting key missions including Chandrayaan, Mangalyaan, and the upcoming Gaganyaan. Digital platforms such as DIKSHA, NISHTHA and the India on the Moon portal also featured space science content for students.
