'AFTER VACCINATION, STRAY DOGS WILL NOW BE RELEASED IN THEIR ORIGINAL AREAS': SUPREME COURT

New Delhi, Aug 22, 2025 : The Supreme Court has given a new interim verdict amending its previous order regarding stray dogs in Delhi-NCR. This decision will now be implemented across the country. The Supreme Court, while changing its previous order, said that after vaccination, dogs will be released in their original areas, but rabies-infected or aggressive dogs will not be allowed to be released.

Also, feeding dogs on the streets has been completely banned. Instead, the Municipal Corporation (MCD) has been directed to create special feeding places for dogs so that they can be taken care of in a systematic manner.

The court has said that dogs will be fed only at designated places. Apart from this, the court has also made it clear that if anyone is found violating these rules, strict action will definitely be taken against him. The court has not allowed feeding dogs at public places.

A bench of three judges, Justice Vikram Nath, Justice Sandeep Mehta and Justice N.V. Anjaria, has taken this decision. Along with this, orders have also been given to transfer the related cases pending in all the courts across the country to the Supreme Court.

Earlier, the Supreme Court order was limited to Delhi-NCR only, but now it has been decided to implement it all over India. The court said that this problem has increased due to the inaction of the local authorities, so strict action is needed. Transferring the pending cases in courts across the country to the Supreme Court will ensure uniformity and the policy can be implemented effectively.

Let us tell you that on August 11, the Supreme Court, expressing concern over the increasing menace of stray dogs in Delhi-NCR, directed the MCD and New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) to take immediate action and catch and remove all stray dogs. In its decision, it said, "This decision has been taken to ensure the safety of children, women and the elderly."
