Massive Arms Haul in Manipur: Security Forces Recover 90 Weapons, 728 Rounds of Ammunition in Coordinated Crackdown

North East, Jul 26, 2025 : According to a press release issued by the Office of the Director General of Police, Manipur, security forces recovered a total of 90 weapons and 728 rounds of ammunition during coordinated operations in the early hours of July 26, 2025.

The operations were conducted in the valley districts of Imphal East, Imphal West, Thoubal, Kakching, and Bishnupur based on specific intelligence about the presence of illegal arms, ammunition, and warlike materials.

Quoting the press release, the police stated:

> "Acting on specific intelligence about a large cache of arms, ammunition, and warlike materials concealed at various locations, coordinated operations were launched simultaneously at multiple sites."

The joint teams, comprising Manipur Police, CRPF, BSF, and the Army’s Assam Rifles, recovered a wide range of weapons, including:

AK Series (3), M16 (1), INSAS (6), SLR (4), Pistols (24), .303 Rifles (7), SBBL/Bore Action (20), and others.

Ammunition and explosives recovered include:

7.62mm (399 rounds), 5.56mm (228 rounds), .303 (35 rounds), grenades (21), IEDs (6), among others.

Other items seized were 21 assorted magazines and 24 wireless handsets.

The Manipur Police stated that these operations "represent a major accomplishment" and reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining peace and public order. Citizens have been urged to cooperate with security forces and report any suspicious activity.

The press release emphasized that senior police officials are in close coordination with all stakeholders to ensure continued and focused operations for restoring normalcy in Manipur.
