Defence Ministry signs emergency procurement contracts worth nearly Rs 2,000 crore
New Delhi, Jun 24, 2025 : In a significant move to strengthen the operational capability of the Indian Army in counter-terrorism operations, the Defence Ministry has finalised 13 contracts under the emergency procurement arrangement. Out of the total sanctioned outlay of Rs 2,000 crore for the Indian Army, these contracts have been finalised for an amount of Rs 1,981.90 crore.
Executed through fast-track procedures under the emergency procurement regime, the procurement aims to enhance situational awareness, lethality, mobility and protection for troops deployed in counter-terrorism operations. The acquisition was completed in a short timeframe to ensure rapid capability enhancement.
Major equipment to be purchased includes:
•Integrated Drone Detection and Interdiction System (IDDIS)
•Low Level Light Weight Radar (LLLR)
•Very Short Range Air Defence System (VSHORADs)-Launcher and Missile
•Remotely Piloted Aerial Vehicles
•Loitering munitions including vertical take-off and landing systems
•Drones of different categories
•Bullet Proof Jacket(BPJ)
•Ballistic Helmets
•Quick Reaction Fighting Vehicles (QRFV)-Heavy and Medium
•Night vision for rifles
This procurement reflects the Ministry's commitment to equip the Indian Army with modern and fully indigenous systems to meet emerging security challenges . This emergency procurement arrangement is important towards bridging the immediate capability gaps and ensuring timely availability of critical operational equipment.
