9th CNFF to begin on 25 October 2025

North East, Jun 11, 2025 : The annual Chalachitram National Film Festival, providing a dignified space for short features and documentaries with the central theme ‘Our Heritage, Our Pride’, will be organized on 25, 26 October at Jyoti Chitraban film studio premise in Kahilipara locality of the prehistoric city in northeast India. Organized by Chalachitram (www.chalachitram.in), a subsidiary of Vishwa Samvad Kendra Assam, the CNFF 2025 will comprise the entries in both competitive (confined to north-eastern film makers) and non-competitive categories. The two-day festival is initiated with an aim to foster nationalism through film-works and also pay homage to India’s thousands of years old civilization, culture and heritage.

The entries with various sub-themes including Indian heritage, indigenous society, heroes of freedom movement, epic & mythology, national integration & solidarity, arts & artisans, manuscripts & paintings, museums, wood carving, musicians, authors, indigenous festivals, ethnic groups, monuments & heritage sites, social reformation, traditional sports, women empowerment, tradition & family values, Yoga & Ayurveda, cultural nationalism, tea & oil, environment, agriculture, education, human rights, tourism potential of northeast India, etc will be accepted for the acclaimed festival.

The film works may be submitted through Filmfreeway with necessary documents. The entries should reach the Chalachitram office by 19 June (Early Bird section), till 19 July (with fees of Rs 500) and by 20 September (fees Rs 1,000). The duration of east entry should be limited to 25 minutes including credit titles. The awards include Best Short Feature, Best Documentary, Best Director, Best Screenplay, Best Cinematography and Best Editing under North-east category along with Best Short Feature and Best Documentary in the national category.

Meanwhile, a new executive committee for CNFF-25 was formed with senior journalist Nava Thakuria as its president, film personalities Prabal Khaund and Deepak Dutta as vice-presidents, actor-director Bhagwat Pritam Dutta as secretary, Riju Dutta as treasurer, Bobita Sharma as organizing secretary, Pranjit Deka and Dhrubajyoti Deka as assistant secretaries along with Amarjyoti Deka , Indrani Laskar, Sanjeev Parashar, Julan Krishna Mahanta, Pallavi Thakuria, Himanshu Baishya, Hiten Thakuria, Bibhu Dutta, Priya Chetri, Aparajita Pujari, Asimkrishna Barua, Buddha Boro as executive members, said a press statement issued by VSK Assam secretary Kishor Shivam.
