Rising North East summit concludes successfully
New Delhi, May 25, 2025 : The Rising North East Investors Summit 2025, held from 23-24 May, concluded on Saturday (24 May). Important investment announcements were made on the first day of the summit. Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi inaugurated the summit on 23 May. In his closing address, Union Minister of Communications and Minister for Development of North Eastern Region (MDONER) Shri Jyotiraditya M. Scindia said that the North East has emerged as a hub of global partnership and mutual interest. The Minister informed that the Rising North East Investors Summit 2025 witnessed an unprecedented investment of Rs 4.3 lakh crore, paving the way for the North East Region (NER) to become India’s next economic superpower.
"We welcomed delegations from over 80 countries - from Japan to Europe and ASEAN countries, and there was a unanimous sentiment: India's future lies in the North East," the minister said.
Shri Jyotiraditya M. Scindia praised Prime Minister Shri Modi for not only recognising but also embracing the immense potential of the North East region. He said, “All this would not have been possible without the commitment of the Government led by Prime Minister Shri Modi and his deep, heartfelt attachment to the region. Even after six decades of Independence, successive governments failed to recognise the immense potential here – a land that once contributed nearly 20% of India’s GDP. But Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi not only understood this potential but also embraced it.”
The Minister said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Modi, we have adopted a “whole of government” approach. The Minister for Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) said that the Ministry has constituted eight high level task forces in key sectors - agriculture, sports, investment promotion, tourism, economic corridors, infrastructure, textiles and handicrafts, and animal husbandry. This will help each State to prepare its own roadmap.
The Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region has been engaging with various stakeholders including investors, foreign diplomats, ambassadors and encouraging them to explore investment opportunities in the North Eastern States. Over the past year, the Ministry has led an effort for extensive nationwide and international engagement in this direction. These key initiatives include nine domestic road shows in major Indian cities, ambassadors' meetings with representatives from over 95 countries, six state-level roundtables, six sector-specific industry interactions and numerous consultations with PSUs, industry chambers and corporates.
Shri Jyotiraditya Scindia said, “These discussions have yielded tangible results and investment proposals worth Rs 4.30 lakh crore have been received.”
Commenting on the Rising North East Summit 2025, the minister said this is the first time since the inception of the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region that an investment summit of this scale has been organised. On Friday, industry captains including Reliance Industries Chairman Mukesh Ambani, Adani Group Chairman Gautam Adani and Vedanta Chairman Anil Aggarwal collectively announced investments worth over Rs 1,55,000 crore to explore opportunities in the North East region during the inaugural ceremony of the event.
Shri Jyotiraditya Scindia, Minister of State, Shri Sukanta Majumdar, Shri Pabitra Margherita, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Minister of Industry and Commerce, Government of Tripura, Santana Chakma attended the event. Shri Chanchal Kumar, Secretary MDONER, Shri Angshuman Dey, Joint Secretary MDONER, Shri Dharmavir Jha, Statistical Advisor, Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region, and other officials were present on the occasion.
On Friday, Mukesh Ambani pledged to invest Rs 75,000 crore over the next five years in sectors such as agriculture, telecom, digital services and local enterprise development, Adani Group chairman Gautam Adani also announced an investment of an additional Rs 50,000 crore over the next decade and Vedanta Group chairman Anil Aggarwal announced investments of over Rs 30,000 crore in the North East.
Minister of State for External Affairs, Shri Pabitra Margherita said, “I am extremely proud and happy to see the remarkable transformation that has taken place in the North East in the last decade under the visionary leadership of Honourable Prime Minister Narendra Modiji.”
Talking about the fortnightly visits by Union Ministers to each North Eastern State, the Minister said that till now more than 700 such visits have taken place which reflects our governance model which is more proactive, result-oriented and truly people-centric.
Shri Sukanta Majumdar expressed gratitude for the grand success of the North East Summit. He said, “Over the last two days, Bharat Mandapam has transformed into a national platform that has amplified the voice, promise and enormous potential of the North East region.”
He said, "From Guwahati to Mumbai, Hyderabad to Kolkata, nine investor road shows, two ambassadorial meetings and interactions with over 131 investors and 24 industry members have accelerated the growth of the North East." Giving details about the progress made in the North East region in recent years, the Minister said, "National Highways in the region have increased from 10,905 km in 2014 to 16,207 km by 2024. A total of 694.5 MW power generation capacity and over 10,000 circuit kilometres of transmission and distribution lines have been added. Thirty-six major aviation projects have been completed and the number of airports has doubled from 9 to 17 between 2014 and 2024."
Shri Chanchal Kumar said that the North Eastern States are not only known for their natural beauty but also have immense potential in the field of natural resources, tourism, sports and music. Keeping all this in mind, it can be said that the future belongs to the North Eastern States. We have organized road shows, ambassadors round table and state round table in various cities of eight states to boost the investment ecosystem in the North East. He further said that the ambassadors meeting held last month was attended by representatives from about 76 countries and the Ministry has received investment proposals worth more than Rs 4 lakh crore.
Shri Dharmveer Jha thanked the investors for showing interest in investing in the North East region and said, “ Today, we are at the culmination of our hard work in the form of the Rising North East Summit. ” The Statistical Advisor, Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region said that investment proposals worth Rs 4.30 lakh crore have been received so far.
The flagship Investment Summit organized by the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region featured Ministerial Sessions, Business-to-Government Sessions, Business-to-Business Meetings, Exhibitions of policy and related initiatives of State Governments and Central Ministries for Startups and Investment Promotion. The Summit is the culmination of various pre-summit related activities such as Road Shows and a series of State Round Table Meetings including Ambassadors Meet and Bilateral Chambers Meet organized by the Central Government with the active support of the State Governments of the North East Region.
At the opening ceremony of the summit held on Friday, the Prime Minister highlighted that Rs 21,000 crore has been invested in the education sector of the North East in the last decade. He mentioned major development works including setting up of over 800 new schools, the region's first AIIMS, nine new medical colleges and two new IIITs. The Prime Minister assured that the North East now offers top-level talent in various fields, encouraging industries and investors to tap the immense potential of the region.
“We will continue B2G and B2B dialogues, where the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region will act as a bridge between investors and State Governments – to ensure that every sanctioned project is completed expeditiously. Standing here today, I reiterate my promise: every MoU, every proposal discussed here will be pursued relentlessly. The North East Region, our NER, has now embarked on a journey of new economic revolution, a new economic revival – where it will emerge as India’s international gateway to South East Asia,” said Union Minister for Development of North Eastern Region Shri Jyotiraditya Scindia in his concluding remarks on Saturday.
