Tripura University Scholars of Economics Department Presented Research Papers at 59th TIES Conference at BHU

The 59th Annual Conference of The Indian Econometric Society (TIES) is currently underway at Banaras Hindu University (BHU), bringing together prominent economists, policymakers, and academicians from across the country. The prestigious three-day event, jointly organized by the Department of Economics, BHU, and TIES, is supported by the National Bank for Financing Infrastructure and Development (NaBFID).
Among the participants, a delegation from Tripura University has made a mark at the conference. Research scholars Samar Das and Sekharan Das from the Department of Economics presented their paper on pressing agricultural issues, contributing to ongoing discussions on economic policies in the sector. Meanwhile, Srijan Debnath, Research Assistant for the Sixteenth Finance Commission, and Sukanti Roy, a Research Scholar from the same department, attended the event to present their research aimed at shaping effective policy implementation for societal development.
The conference, running from March 3 to 5, features a diverse range of discussions on economic and financial issues. A key highlight of the inaugural day was the Sukhamoy Chakravarty Memorial Lecture, delivered by renowned economist Dr. Deepak Nayyar, former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Delhi. His talk, titled "Whither Globalization? Through the Lens of History," provided deep insights into the historical trajectory of globalization and its current challenges.
Another significant session included a special lecture on Monetary Policy Transmission and Labour Markets in India by Dr. Chetan Ghate, offering valuable perspectives on macroeconomic trends affecting the country.
The conference agenda includes several technical sessions covering a wide range of economic topics, alongside engaging panel discussions on Stock and Commodity Markets, Artificial Intelligence inFinancial Markets, and Local Economic Development in Uttar Pradesh. Distinguished speakers from institutions such as IIT Bombay, IIM Vishakhapatnam, NSE, and MCX are contributing their expertise to the discourse.
The event will conclude on March 5 with a valedictory session recognizing notable contributions in econometrics and economic research. With its rich exchange of ideas, academic discussions, and policy-driven insights, the 59th TIES Conference is expected to make a significant impact on India's economic landscape.
