Deafening silence in Bangladesh over India’s ascension to final match of ongoing ICC champions trophy in Dubai

A funerary silence descended among viscerally anti-India cricket fans across Bangladesh as the Indian cricket team made it to the final of the ongoing ICC champions trophy in Dubai last night. They had fondly hoped that team India would falter against the mighty Australians in the semi-final but their hopes were dashed as Indian batters and bowlers put in a sterling performance to ensure a smooth cruise to the final slated for next Sunday at the cost of Australia. Sources from across the border said that the petty-minded and pathologically envious cricket fans of Bangladesh accustomed to looking upon themselves as at par with India had been fuming silently ever since team India had made a mincemeat of their team in a group clash in Dubai. The next straw the BD minnows had clutched at was Pakistan who, they nursed the hope, might be able to edge out India but that too had not happened and now the exit of Australia put paid to all their malignant envy and hope for deriving pleasure from India’s discomfiture. “Such is the malignant jealousy of these petty people that they do not care much about humiliations suffered by Bangladesh in any match but find a vicarious gratification from defeat suffered by India” said sources from across the border.
They pointed out that after India had quite unexpectedly lost the last ODI world cup final at Motera (Ahmedabad) on the fateful night of October 19 2023 the mean Bangladeshi minnows had gone for countrywide celebration with processions , slogan shouting and fire-works-a bizarre show unseen anywhere in the world. But they had to silently suffer when India picked up the T-20 world cup last year in tbe USA by prevailing over mighty South Africa in the final. “That time these devious elements pretended as if nothing had changed and India had benefited from the rich resources of BCCI and its contributions to the ICC but now they are reduced to glum faced silence though stray guttural voices are blaming ICC’s favouritism in letting India play all its matches on the Dubai ground” said sources.
The petty Bangladeshis still harbouring the pre-partition mindset of Hindu hatred hardly care to recall that India had won the ODI-world cup twice in 1983 and 2011 besides reaching the finals of 2003 and 2023. Apart from this, India have won the T-20 world cups in 2007 which was the inaugural tournament as well as the latest edition of the championship last year. What seems to be pleasantly surprising is that the Indian cricket team has got a big fan following in Pakistan whose many cricket enthusiasts and fans actually celebrated the string of Indian victories against Bangladesh, New Zealand, Australia and even their own country Pakistan. Indian flags and photos of Birat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and Jaspreet Bumrah lined up the side-walks of major roads and even house-tops in Islamabad ,Lahore and Karachi even as Pakistani cricket fans were effusive over Indian success and achievements of its players. This perhaps brings to light the dividing line between legacy of greatness-Pakistan was once a very strong and successful team- and mean envy of the minnows. The viscerally ungrateful minnows of Bangladeshi hellscape possibly do not recall that it was the late Indian cricket administrator and former ICC chairman Jagmohan Dalmya who had bent rules to pave the way for their promotion as full-fledged member of the ICC in the late nineties of the last century.
